07 Jan Better search experience in Google Drive

Drive is more than just a collaboration tool, it is a fully developed productive and cloud storage service which allows the user to be versatile, making your life easier. Google are constantly monitoring, changing and improving Drive as part of an ongoing effort to make it the easiest place to find your files. One of the most fascinating feature of Drive is how accessible and easy to reach your files are from any device whether you search via the web, Android or IOS. Google recognise the need for the user to be able to find their files quickly and have launched a brand new search experience, making it easier and more accessible for the user to get their results super fast.

So let’s take a look at this new search feature Google have launched in Drive.

  • The user now has the ability to narrow their search by file type from the search on any device.
  • Select the advanced search from the search box.
  • Access recent files or search Drive from the home screen using 3D Touch on iOS.
  • Search Drive using the iOS search bar without opening the Drive app.

Once you select the ‘More search tools’ option the following options will appear which you can choose from to give more specific results. You can choose which type of file you wish to search, the date in which you modified the file, item name, the owner of the document, who the document was shared with by entering their name or email address and also the location of the document.

You will notice that when you fill out the advanced search fields this builds up a search string automatically, you can also search by typing the advanced search terms in manually, similar to other Google Apps such as Gmail.

The new search features are ready to use immediately on any device. Enjoy!

Stay tuned for more tips and tricks, until next week.'
