Gmail Redesign

09 May Gmail Redesign

Gmail has released a bundle of major updates to help over 4 million paying businesses that use G Suite to work smarter, safer and more efficiently. The new Gmail has a brand new look on the web, along with more advanced security features and new applications with Google’s artificial intelligence. One of the new features includes  The integration of new Google Tasks to make working on the go more manageable. This sidebar includes various new useful integrations that will make for a faster and more effective way of working.

New Gmail Security Features

Google are also introducing a new approach to protecting information – Gmail confidential mode. When in confidential mode, it is possible to ensure sensitive content in your emails is protected. This can be done by creating expiration dates on email access, or revoking previously sent messages. Because you can require additional authentication via text message to view an email, it’s also possible to protect data even if a recipient’s email account has been hijacked while the message is active.

Built-in Information Rights Management (IRM) controls allow you to remove the option to forward, copy, download or print emails. This helps to actively reduce the risk of private information being shared with the wrong people. Confidential mode will begin to roll out to consumer Gmail users and a limited number of G Suite customers in the coming weeks.

The security warnings in Gmail have also been changed. The warnings are now bigger and bolder giving a more eye catching call to action to employees. These warnings are hard to miss and will be a clear indication of when an email could be a security risk, highlighting scenarios such as unknown senders, unauthenticated mail, and potential phishing attacks. New Artificial Intelligence in Gmail

There are new AI-powered features in Gmail such as Nudging, Smart Reply, and high priority notifications. With Nudging, Gmail reminds you to follow up on or respond to messages, making sure you don’t miss out on anything important.

Smart reply is now being brought to Gmail on the web, allowing you to easily respond to messages faster. There have been new features added to mobile to enable you to reduce interruptions and clutter. The high priority feature is a clever notification setting that only notifies you of important messages. Gmail can also recommend when to unsubscribe from mailing lists based on intelligent cues like how many emails you get from a sender and how many of them you actually reading.

New Easy to use tools

The new Gmail web application has been designed to allow users to take action even quicker than before. Now, you can see and click on attachments in your inbox without having to open a thread. Likewise, by hovering over messages you have the ability to do things such as RSVP to a meeting, archive an email, or snooze an email until you want to address it.

Tasks, Calendar & Keep

One of the most useful new features is that you are able to reference, create or edit calendar invites, note down ideas in Keep, or even manage all of your to-do’s in Tasks, all from one side panel that sits in your inbox. This side panel means that you no longer have to switch between tabs, you can simply drag and drop an email into tasks to create a to-do list. It even allows easy access to Gmail add-ons that you may wish to integrate.

Available in the Coming Weeks

There will also be new offline capabilities in Gmail on the web, which will enable you to work without disruption when you don’t have access to WiFi. Teams can start using offline capabilities in the coming weeks. You’ll have the option to search, compose, reply, delete and archive up to the last 90 days’ worth of emails without an internet connection.

The all-new Gmail experience is available for businesses to start using today in the G Suite Early Adopter Program (EAP) and can be turned on in the Admin console. You’ll start to see offline support, confidential mode (limited release), Nudging, high-priority notifications and unsubscribe suggestions appear soon. Keep up with the latest news on these features in the G Suite Updates blog.
